Post office passport seva Kendra opens in Ramanathapuram

RAMANATHAPURAM: To ease the process of applying for passports and renewal of passports by people in far-flung rural areas, a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra was inaugurated at the Ramanathapuram head post office here on Tuesday.
The PO Passport Seva Kendra, a joint effort of the Regional Passport Office, Madurai and Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu, was opened by the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha MP, Mr. K. Nawaskani, Madurai Region Passport officer, T Arun Prasad, and other senior officials from both the departments participated in function.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nawaskani said people in far-flung villages in Ramanathapuram district and adjoining areas could not get their passport related services at the head post office centre here itself and would not need to go all the way to Madurai.
Their applications will be sent to the Madurai Regional Passport Office and after due police verification, the passports will be mailed to their respective residential addresses, he pointed out. This would save people in remote villages a lot of time and bother, the MP representing IUML, said.
The MP said he would also try and fulfill his other promise given to the people at the time of the Lok Sabha election of establishing an airport in Ramanathapuram district.
