CHENNAI: In a brief interaction with reporters in New Delhi on the sidelines of an event, Apollo Hospitals chairman Dr C.Prathap Reddy welcomed the judicial commission constituted to go into Jayalalithaa’s death and gave an assurance that his institution would provide all possible assistance during the investigation.

“Apollo has done maximum that is possible for a lady who is a venerable person. I think we treated her and gave her very best that we could”, Reddy told reporters when asked to comment about the raging controversy on her hospitalisation and subsequent death.

Dr Reddy also said the hospital had issued a detailed statement after the commission was announced on August 17 welcoming the decision and extending cooperation. Maintaining that the treatment given to Jayalalithaa was an “open book”, he also said the hospital management is ready to face any commission that would go into her death. He said the institution would extend all possible cooperation to the inquiry commission.

Top officials of the Apollo Hospitals management said all documents including medical investigation reports and other reports have already been handed over to the government. “We are not in possession of any of the reports. All documents relating to madam’s health and hospitalisation have been handed over to the Tamil Nadu Government. If the inquiry commission needs any more clarifications, we are ready to provide them,” a top official of the hospital said.

Responding to demands that Apollo Hospitals release the CCTV footage inside the ICU, the official said ICUs and wards do not have cameras. On contradicting claims by ministers on whether they were allowed to meet Jayalalithaa in the ward, the official said the hospital management cannot respond to every claim or statement by ministers and leaders. “If the inquiry commission needs any clarification regarding this, we would be able to guide them,” the official said.
