Nellore: Sanitary workers of Nellore Municipal Corporation have called off their 45 days old strike following an understanding reached between the civic body and the leaders of the workers unions on Thursday.

Speaking to the media persons after a meeting with the workers unions, Nellore Mayor S.K. Abdul Aziz said the workers will return to duties from Saturday. He thanked the denizens of Nellore for bearing the inconvenience caused by the strike during last one and half month.

Reminding that GO No. 279 pertaining to handing over the sanitary work to private agencies had triggered the strike, he said they have made some modifications to the GO for the benefit of the workers at the instance of Urban Development minister P. Narayana. He said the modification would enable the workers to receive salaries and other benefits from the Civic body instead of private agency.

He thanked the workers for their flexibility. YSR Congress floor leader P. Roopkumar Yadav, Corporators Nune Mallikarjun, Pitti Satya Nageswar Rao, Vuchhi Bhuvaneswar, CPM leaders Madala Venkateswarlu, Katti Srinivasulu and Moolam Ramesh were present with the Mayor.
