Bengaluru: Escalators, disabled friendly facilities
The aim is to run more services, but it is too soon to comment on the project, Ashok Gupta, general manager, South Western Railway said.
Bengaluru: The elevated surburban railway will come equipped with escalators, elevators and provide access for the differentlyabled, going by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. While Mumbai and Delhi have already come out with preliminary reports for their network, Bengaluru is still working on the project.
Mr Ashok Gupta, general manager, South Western Railway, told DC that it had begun a feasibility study to see how best it could augment the capacity of the railway network. “The aim is to run more services, but it is too soon to comment on the project. A lot of factors, such as land availability, have to be looked into,” he said.
Rail enthusiast Sanjeev Dyamnavar believed that Bengaluru has an advantage because of its many elevated surfaces. “There could be an elevated railway corridor from KSR to Nayandahalli, Yeshwanthpur and Kengeri. But it may not be possible to build in places where the Metro goes over the railway tracks,” he says.
