New Delhi: In a major announcement by external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj after the tragic death of adopted Indian child Sherin Mathews in the US, said “Passports for adopted children will be issued only with prior clearance by ministry of child development in all cases.” The child, who was originally called Saraswati, was adopted by a couple hailing from Kerala and named Sherin Mathews. She was allegedly killed in the US by Wesley Mathews, the man who adopted her.
Ms Swaraj also requested minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi to order a “thorough investigation into the adoption process of Saraswati”.
