Kottayam: The Devikulam sub-collector has served a notice on Idukki MP Joyce George and his family members  to produce the documents of the lands in their possession  in  Idukki district.

It may be recalled that the Devikulam police had registered a case on  January 7, 2015  for land encroachment  by Mr Joyce George and his family members.    As per the  case which is now before the High Court,  the MP and 33 others encroached on 32 acres of  land in Devikulam taluk  using forged documents.

According to  sources, sub-collector V.R. Prem Kumar asked the MP and others to be present at the sub-collector’s office on November 7 for verifying the documents of the  lands possessed by them  at Vattavada, Kottakambur, Kanthalloor, Keezhaloor and Marayur villages.

The land revenue commissioner in  December  2015 had issued an order to verify the  'Thandper kanakku' in these villages. Though the verification began when Mr Sriram Venkitaraman was the deputy collector,  it did not proceed as the CPM launched a strike.

The notice warned of  action if they fail to  respond  after receiving the notices.  Meanwhile,  Mr Joyce George said that he will cooperate with the inquiry once he receives the notice.

"I have submitted many documents before the government  agencies. I am willing to submit them again if available  with me," he said.
