Hyderabad: Two children crushed to death in pillar collapse
Kids were playing at construction site with other children.
Hyderabad: Two siblings, aged 6 and 3, who were trapped under a cement pillar which collapsed on them at a construction site in Chandanagar, died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Ammulu, 6, and Pravalika, 3, children of Dastagiri, a labourer, and his wife Thirumala, Chandanagar police said, adding that the couple had migrated along with their children to Hyderabad from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh in search of work.
“The family was residing in a temporary house on the site and they were working on the construction site for the past 25 days. On Friday, around 9 am, the couple left for work leaving the children at home since they did not go to school. While the parents went to work at another villa which was under construction, they left the children to play along with other children. The kids were playing under the veranda of the villa, when a pillar constructed with cement bricks to support the veranda suddenly collapsed and fell on them,” said Chandanagar inspector B. Ravinder.
“Other labourers who were working there rushed and helped in pulling the kids out of the debris. The children were initially shifted to a private hospital in Nallagandla from where they were taken to Gandhi Hospital. They succumbed to their injuries on late Friday night”, added the official.
Police have booked a case for negligence causing death against the construction contractor.
