Mr Reddy said Congress would give a respectable place in society to ex-servicemen.

Adilabad/Karimnagar: The Congress party is facing a peculiar situation. Some of its MLA candidates want the Congress party to come to power and become ministers but wish other senior leaders should not win the elections.

Ministerial posts are dividing the Congress much before it comes to power. Some senior leaders, DCC presidents and sitting MLAs who are confident of getting tickets are now playing with others’ tickets in their respective districts.

In this background, Congress leaders may indulge in backstabbing their own party candidates for selfish gains. This may adversely affect the chances of Congress party candidates winning and the growth of the party as a whole.

A Congress party leader, Nirmal, said, “The staunch supporters of some senior Congress leaders are spreading news that once a Congress government is formed, their bosses will get ministerial berths because of their popularity.”

The overconfident Congress leaders who may get party tickets are likely to cause damage to other party candidates in the district by eyeing ministerial berths on the confidence that the grand alliance including Congress will come to power this time.

The news making rounds in political circles is that that some Congress leaders are projecting themselves as ministers and have changed their attitude towards the local people.

These leaders do not want other senior MLAs from the party to win the elections from the same district as they may become competitors and are even trying to scuttle their chances of getting tickets.

As a consequence, the DCCs are promoting junior and weaker candidates for the tickets, while missing the logic that the Congress or Grand Alliance cannot form the government with just a few victorious candidates while others lose the elections.
