PDS rice seized in godown raid

According to the Task Force, the suspects collected rice for Rs 7 per kg and sold it for Rs 12 per kg.

Hyderabad: Commissioner’s Task Force Central Zone team along with Civil Supply officers intercepted two vehicles near NMDC and subsequently raided an illegal Public Distribution System rice godown situated in Nallakunta resulting in the arrest of seven persons and seizure of 16,100 kg of PDS rice, and 230 kg of wheat.  The arrested were identified as Mohd Abrar Ahmed alias Abrar, 30, Mohammed Mohsin, 23, Mohammed Ghayasuddin, 30, Mohammed Isa, 52, Kummari Vijay Kumar, 22, Mohammed Khaja, 23, and Shaik Akheel, 28, police said.

According to DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radhakrishna Rao, the suspects were caught while transporting the PDS rice to Zaheerabad and about 11,000 kg of PDS rice and 230 kg of wheat were seized. On further enquiry it was revealed that the suspects purchased the same from Nallakunta from one Mohd Abrar Ahmed. The team immediately conducted raid on the godown situated at Nallakunta.

The official  added that  the suspects collected PDS rice from known and unknown card holders in Musheerabad, Warisguda, Parsigutta and Secunderabad for Rs 7 per kg and stored it before diverting the rice to Zaheerabad in trolley goods vehicles and selling it for '12 per kg.
