Hyderabad Metro Rail: Nearly 7,000 smart cards sold in 2 days

Hyderabad: In the last two days the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have sold nearly 7,000 smart cards. This response has given a boost to L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited officials of the fact that citizens are looking forward to the new mode of transport that will be launched on Tuesday. Presently, the smart cards are being sold at four stations— Nagole, Tarnaka, Prakashnagar and SR Nagar. For the inaugural, L&T Metro Rail has offered a 5 per cent discount.

The smart cards are being sold at Rs 200 each. Citizens can initially top-up their cards for Rs 100. An initial security deposit of Rs 100 has been charged for the cards. The upper limit for the card has been fixed at Rs 3,000. Citizens can top up their cards whenever necessary. The validity for the cards is for a year from the date of purchase.

A senior officer said, “Once the card is used, the amount will be deducted. If there is no cash in the card, citizens need not worry as it has been topped-up the validity will continue. The system of the smart card works in such a way, that even if a person does not use the card for some time, it will continue to be in the system.” With commercial operations set to begin from November 29, Hyderabadis are looking forward to the long awaited ride in the Metro.
