Kakinada: The long-held dreams and aspirations of the people of Kakinada and Yanam have been dashed to the ground with the Railway Board finally taking a decision to shelve the Kakinada-Pithapuram rail link which would place the port town on the main line. The Board’s decision goes against the promises made by all the political parties in the state, including the Congress, the Telugu Desam and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to link Kakinada and Pithapuram by rail.

It is learnt that on the basis of the report given by the General Manager of the South Central Railway, the Railway Board came to this decision. However, for the past few years there has been some allotment of funds for the project and earlier this year in the Railway Budget, Rs.50 crores were allocated for the project and even funds were released.
