Tamil Nadu leads in organ transplants for third year in a row
The state holds a record of 5,953 organ donations and 1,059 organ donors from Tamil Nadu.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu was awarded for the highest number of transplantations in any state across the country for a third consecutive year on Monday. The state holds a record of 5,953 organ donations and 1,059 organ donors from Tamil Nadu.
National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (Notto) and the Union health ministry awarded the state for a third the maximum number of organ donations and performing maximum organ transplantations in the state.
State health minister C. Vijaya Baskar and health secretary J. Radhakrishnan received the award at a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday presented by minister of state in the ministry of health and family welfare Anupriya Patel in the presence of Union health minister J.P. Nadda.
Dr Vijaya Baskar thanked Notto and the Union health ministry for their support stating that efforts of the government to encourage organ transplantations will continue to be supported by Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
Under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, the government sanctions up to Rs 35 lakh for transplantation, he said.
