Kannur: No change in Keezhattoor NH alignment
CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan asked the BJP to apologise to the people for misleading them and triggering scare.
Kannur: The final notification of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Keezhattoor bypass through the paddy fields without any change in the alignment has put both Vayal Kilikal, the farmers’ action council, and BJP which assured a change in the earlier notification, in a tight spot.
Vayal Kilikal which held an emergency meeting on Tuesday decided to resume the agitation against both the Union and state governments. Their leader Suresh Keezhattoor said that BJP used it as merely as a tool to beat CPM.
“Both CPM and BJP cheated us,” he said. “All means would be explored to save the paddy fields. The final notification appeared in prominent dailies proves that both CPM and BJP are killing nature in the name of development.” He described Union minister Nitin Gadkari as a true comrade of CPM in this.
“Keezhattoor agitation is not an isolated one mushroomed on a one fine morning. It has been evolved over many months as the people of the state took it as their resistance against the onslaught,” he said.
“The same people would stand with the farmers of Keezhattoor till the last. The agitation will go on.” The farmers were hoping that the BJP-led Union government would change the alignment. The notification contains dates for hearing of landowners to decide upon compensation.
Meanwhile, CPM Kann-ur district secretary P. Jayarajan has asked the BJP to apologise to the people for misleading the-m and triggering scare and hostilities.
The state BJP leadership also came out extending support. The then BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan had assured them to repeal the notification. The BJP also took Mr Keezhattoor and Mambaram Janaki, their leaders, to New Delhi to meet Mr Gadkari and higher officials.
