BENGALURU: All three members of a family died in a fire accident at their residence early at Udayanagar in Mahadevapura police limits on Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh, 35, who worked as an electronic gadgets technician, his wife Sophia, 30, and their Flora, 6. The family owned a house in Cauvery Street in Udayanagar.

Santosh’s younger brothers Satish and Shashank lived on the first and second floors with their families, while Santosh and his family lived on the ground floor of the same building. The two brothers and their families were away in Pune on vacation when the incident occurred.

Around 6.30 am, the neighbours saw smoke bellowing from the house and alerted the fire and emergency service, who rushed to the spot and broke the doors open. The house was covered in thick smoke and the firemen found the three burnt bodies in the room where the family was sleeping.

“The house had no ventilation as all the windows were closed. All the three have inhaled smoke and fainted before being burnt alive," an official said.

The police suspect that the family might have lit a candle or a mosquito coil and placed it near the synthetic mattress that would have caught fire.

The Mahadevapura police have registered a case and sent the bodies to Bowring Hospital for postmortem.
