Ex-judge to conduct hockey association election

Chennai: The Madras high court has appointed a former district judge as commissioner to conduct an election to the Chennai Hockey Association.
Justice C.V. Karthikeyan, when a petition filed by the Lingaraj Memorial Club, has appointed former district judge K. Perumal, as the judge-commissioner and directed him to prepare a valid list of affiliated clubs, to decide the eligibility of candidates who wanted to contest as per the bylaws of the Chennai Hockey Association, prepare members list and decide the nature of election to be conducted.

In the petition, Lingaraj Memorial Club, one of an affiliated members of the Chennai Hockey Association, sought the court to declare the election notification dated May 4, 2017, issued by the Chennai Hockey Association as illegal and against the bylaws of the club.

Justice C.V. Karthikeyan said, “The commissioner should follow the recommendations of Justice Lodha Committee, which is universally applicable to every sports organisation. He shall also file an interim report on the developments in three weeks.”
