Mangaluru: Continuing its moral policing,  the Bajrang Dal has now targeted New Year Eve parties in Mangaluru district. In a letter to the police and excise department on Wednesday, the outfit demanded that they stop hotels and pubs from holding the parties and demanded closure of all pubs and bars by 11 pm on December 31.

“It has come to our notice that DJ and drug parties and indecent dances will be held on Dec. 31 in several hotels, pubs and public places. Organising such events in the name of New Year is a western culture which the VHP-Bajrang Dal is against,” the letter said, adding “innocent girls are targeted as part of love jihad and are tempted to participate in such events.”

Warning that such parties gave a boost to the drug and sex mafia, it said no permission should be given to any “DJ party, indecent dances and liquor parties. And all bars, hotels and pubs should be shut by 11 pm”.

Mr Sharan Pumpwell of the Dal said it was not against family get-togethers or decent parties on New Year's Eve. In response, the  Karnataka Komu Sauhardha Vedike district president Suresh Bhat, “Such outfits want to polarise society and are more serious about it this year with elections just a few months away.”
