Bengaluru: Although  KPCC President Dinesh Gundurao sought to downplay the rift between Siddaramaiah camp and deputy chief minister G. Parameshwar, the fight over portfolio allocation may not die down, even after the completion of the exercise.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Gundurao said that there was no confusion or rift between the leaders. "The hiccups will be overcome with the allocation of portfolios,” he said.

However, sources in the party said that  the fight between the Siddaramaiah group and deputy chief minister, Dr Parameshwar has just began.

Backed by many Congress loyalists, Dr Parameshwar took a calculated risk of opposing the suggestions of Siddaramaiah related to portfolio allocation. Parameshwara wanted to send a message to AICC president Rahul Gandhi that AICC general secretary, K.C. Venugopal, instead of safeguarding the interests of loyal leaders, was taking the side of Siddaramaiah and damaging the party in the long run.

Dissent
“Now senior leaders are discussing what is the message that the party is sending if we give home and other important portfolios to those who raised the banner of revolt. Mr Venugopal is agreeing to whatever Mr Siddaramaiah recommends even though it may not be in the interests of the party. That’s why, Dr Parameshwar opposed giving up the home portfolio and questioned Mr Siddaramaiah in Wednesday’s meeting. We do not know what this fight will lead to,” Congress party insider
