Hyderabad: Muslim youths continued their post-Juma prayer protest for the third consecutive Friday in various parts of Hyderabad against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens and the National Population Register (NPR).
At various mosques, including the Macca Masjid in the Old City, youths demonstrated after the afternoon prayer, raising slogans against the Modi government and demanding the withdrawal of the nation-wide NRC.
More than 1,000 youths gathered on the roads in front of the masjid and started raising slogans. There was no untoward incident. Barring some slogan-shouting against the CCA and the NRC, prayers passed off peacefully. Though there was no additional deployment of forces at Macca Masjid and Charminar, senior police officers were present to monitor the situation. About 1,000 youths also gathered near the Azizia Masjid, Mehdip-atnam, and Jamia Masjid Ganj-e-Shahee-dan Jhirrah, Karwan, and other places. In Jirrah, a federation of mosques organized the rally.
Speaking on the occasion, Mujahid Hashmi, secretary of the federation, said there was an attempt of the fascist forces to snatch the voting rights of the Muslims. He criticised the UP government’s action against the protesters. He said the BJP did not expect that the Muslims would get support from the citizens of other religions.
