Hyderabad: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday inaugurated the Indian Engineering Congress, organised by the Institute of Engineers (India) in Hyderabad.

Ms Soundararajan, in her inaugural address, called for engineering technology to be used to safeguard the environment. She also appreciated the state government’s use of indigenous technology in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).

“I have visited Kaleshwaram. I noticed that almost all the technology used for it was indigenous. The engineers working on it took the help of foreign experts only in a few cases. We must commend them,” she said.

The governor said that as a doctor, she appreciated her ‘co-professional’, the engineer.

“Doctors work on the same model (human body) that has been the same since the dawn of man. But engineers work on ever-changing technologies,” she said.

She said delegates at the event should develop and deploy engineering solutions for water conservation, green buildings, environment protection and waste management.
