Telangana HC seeks report on trafficking

Hyderabad: A division bench of Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court directed the state government to give a report on steps being taken for protection and rehabilitation of girls and children who are victims of trafficking. The bench also wanted the government to come up with its latest report on children missing in Nalgonda district.

Earlier, the court had suo motu taken up a writ petition when several children were rescued in Yadadri a few years ago. The court heard senior counsel L. Ravichander who said that while the government’s intent and policies were in place, implementation was suspect.

Amicus D. Prakash Reddy, senior counsel, pointed to various shortcomings in the reports submitted to the court. The bench delinked a single habeas corpus petition of a boy filed 16 years after he went missing. The bench required that reports be filed by February.
