Hyderabad: As per the promise made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the revenue administration departments of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts on Monday started searching for suitable locations for housing plots. These plots will be given at concessional to legislators.

“We were told to keep a few locations ready to be identified for the legislators’ residential plots, we will complete the work in another week,” said Hyderabad Collector Rahul Bojja on Monday.

He said in view of shortage of availability of the required land in Hyderabad district, it would be possible to allot land in Ranga Reddy. The amount of land that will be offered to each legislator is not yet known as the site has not been identified yet, but officials said it would be around 500 yards.

Plots for legislators face SC hurdle
Though, the TS government is scouting for land to provide house sites to the MLAs, it is not going to be easy for the state as there’s a pending case on a similar issue before the Supreme Court.

Late YSR government, too, had decided to allot individual house sites to legislators, journalists and judges and to All India Service officials, but the allotment was stuck as Supreme Court intervened in the matter.

The apex court is yet to deliver a judgement on the issue to decide whether it would be prudent for the government to offer residential plots at concessional rates to a few sections of society.

Soon after the TS government was formed, on the instructions of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the government filed a petition before the apex court seeking to implead in the matter.

“Unless the apex court decides on the pending case, it will not be easy for the new government to again go for allotment of house sites to legislators,” a senior legislator told this newspaper.

When contacted, principal secretary to the revenue department B.R. Meena said, “We were asked to search for a location, what the government will do we don’t know.”
