New Delhi: In a significant decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed that each High Court in the country should ensure installation of CCTV Cameras (without audio recording) inside the courtrooms, to begin with, at least in two districts in each state/Union Territory.

A bench of Justices A.K. Goel and Uday Lalit in its order said that the districts shall be selected by the High Courts. The installation of CCTV Cameras shall be completed within a period of three months from Tuesday and the Registrar General of the respective High Courts have been asked to submit a report on the working of the CCTV Cameras within one month thereafter.

However, the Bench said that recordings through the CCTV Cameras shall only remain in the custody of High Courts.
