Distinguished MCC alumni honoured at association meet
MCC distinguished Alumni Series 2018 recognizes illustrious alumni who have made an impact in society in their own fields.
CHENNAI: The Alumni Association of Madras Christian College (MCC) presented Distinguished Alumni Award to recognize the exemplary work of renowned nephrologist Dr M K Mani and chairman of Sundram Fasteners Limited Suresh Krishna at “Distinguished Alumni Series 2018” held on Wednesday. MCC distinguished Alumni Series 2018 recognizes illustrious alumni who have made an impact in society in their own fields. Padma Bhushan Dr M K Mani was given the award in recognition of being the pioneer of Nephrology in India with outstanding academic achievements and his service at the community level in preventing chronic renal failure through a non-profit trust-Kidney Help Trust.
He devised a protocol to prevent chronic kidney failure in 56 villages and hamlets around Chennai, creating a domiciliary programme, which was adjudged the Best Prevention programme in the world by the International Society of Nephrology.
“In the current scenario, when the incidence of non-communicable diseases is high, people should take diagnostic tests to check most common chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension,” said Dr Mani.Padma Shri Suresh Krishna was given the award in recognition of his contribution to the phenomenal growth of the automobile industry in India. Suresh Krishna entered TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons Ltd in 1961, while he founded Sundaram Fasteners in 1963.
