Fourth dumpyard site for GHMC identified
GHMC officials say that the sites have been chosen in keeping with the Solid Waste Management rules of 2016.
Hyderabad: The GHMC has identified a site in Jinnaram, the fourth apart from Jawahar Nagar, for garbage to be dumped. It wants to decentralise the dumping process.
The GHMC has already decided to set up a 44-acre dumping yard in Talakondapally, a 159-acre yard in Keshavpet and an 80-acre yard in Rameshwaram Banda. Officials have now identified 172 acres of land in Jinnaram as well.
GHMC officials say that the sites have been chosen in keeping with the Solid Waste Management rules of 2016. 20 to 25 parameters are taken into consideration for the identification of landfill sites, the most prominent among them being their distance from water bodies and rivers, residential localities, and airport zones. The sites should also satisfy certain geological criteria so that pollutants do not contaminate groundwater.
The Jawahar Nagar dumping yard has been a topic of controversy from a long time. Resi-dents have been complaining about the unbearable stench that emanates from the yard.
