Bengaluru: Hopes and dreams of Ajit Babu, an entrepreneur and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Ramanagara constituency, crashed after his nomination was rejected by the Election Commission because of a technical problem.

Ajit (28), who is suffering cerebral palsy, is also a disability rights activist.

He runs two factories, one in Ramanagara and the other in Uttar Pradesh. People working in his factories also suffer from disabilities.

Babu was constantly complaining about the system and finally decided to take the plunge into politics and was selected as Ramanagara candidate by the AAP.

Ajit told Deccan Chronicle, “It was shocking. We went to the Election Commission’s (EC) office to check why my nomination was rejected. We found that the ten proposals I had submitted were rejected as the names and ID numbers were not matching. These 10 people have valid voter identity cards and have been voting for a long time and they had put their signatures in the supporting documents as proof.”

He said, “I had checked all the 10 people’s voters identity numbers on the official website of the EC and found them to be correct. But later, EC officials claimed that there was a mismatch as per their manual. I showed them the screen shots of the official website which reflected that the names and ID numbers matched, but the officials refused to budge.”

He said that it was his dream to contest the elections and work for the people and society.

“All our hard work has gone down the drain and our dreams have crashed. Several people were working hard and planning for the campaign, but now everything comes to an end. I have been a victim of the system and we as common people cannot do much,” he said.
