Hyderabad: More than 80 civil aspirants mentored by Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat for the personality test, were selected in the final results of the UPSC declared on Friday.

Nine of them ranked in the top 100 list. Twelve candidates from Telangana including eight from the city made it to 990 selected candidates. Last year too, 84 out of the 300 plus candidates mentored by Mr Bhagwat had cleared the personality test.

Mr Bhagwat said social media had helped them a lot in forming a group of all the students who were preparing for the civil exams and the personality test in particular.

He had formed two WhatsApp groups for the candidates. Candidates from both the Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and West Bengal were present in these two groups for mentoring. “My role is limited. I helped them only in the final level of the interview. It is their effort and dedication that helped them in clearing the Prelims and Mains and coming to this level. I hope they inspire the next generation and help other aspiring candidates who are willing to serve the nation,” he said.

Surabhi Adarsh from TS (rank 393), a mechanical engineer graduate from IIT-Delhi cleared the exams in his second attempt. Though he went till the  Mains in the first attempt, he could not clear the personality test.
