Summer classes in Telangana: 39 colleges raided

Hyderabad: Telangana State Board of Intermediate officials have stated that they will be taking stringent action against the institutions conducting classes during summer vacation.

The board had raided private colleges discreetly last week after a tip-off was given that institutions were conducting classes for first and second-year intermediate students and that the hostel facilities were open.

These educational institutions were sent notices and the authorities were asked for an explanation before the colleges were locked.  As per the instructions by an inter-board official, Dr A. Ashok, IAS, the board had conducted searches in 18 colleges of Medchal district, 9 colleges in Rangareddy district and locked 12 colleges after they were seen flouting rules. In total, 39 colleges have been raided in all three districts on Saturday.“There have been so many complaints from students against inhuman coaching hours and the summer break is meant to be a period of relaxation for them. 

Taking extra classes and giving holiday homework will lead to more stress and the state is already leading in student suicides.Students should use this time for some recreational activities and ensure that their mind is well rested by the time classes start,” says an official.

Moreover, raids have also looked into the running of hostels after several students complained that they were being made to stay cooped up in a room that was too small for more than three hours. Similarly a check was also conducted on the mess facilities to ensure that no unhygienic practices were used. The officials have strictly warned private colleges that they stand to lose their affiliation if they are caught committing any wrongdoing.
