40 Naxals surrender in Bastar
Rs 10,000 was given to each of the surrendered Naxals by District Collector.
Raipur: Forty Naxals, including a woman carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, surrendered in Maoist-hit Bastar after which the district collector gave Rs 10,000 to each of them as a goodwill gesture.
They surrendered in Jagdalpur, the headquarter of Bastar district, on Saturday. There were nine women in the group, Bastar Suprintendent of Police R N Das said.
19 Naxals from Darbha Division Committee (DVC) of Maoists, two from Kanger Veli Area Committee and 19 from East Bastar division and Mardapal Area Committee surrendered before the police, he said.
Subli Kashyap from East Bastar division, who carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, was among those who surrendered. The Naxals of this division were accused of stealing ballots and ammunition during the 2013 Assembly polls, police said.
Rs 10,000 was given to each of the surrendered Naxals by District Collector Amit Kataria as a goodwill measure, they added.
