Kottayam: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala  has asked  Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to give up the home portfolio  in the wake of the  brutal murder of Kevin P.  Joseph. He sought an investigation headed by the ADGP into the incident  and  said  since the accused are DYFI activists,  the police may destroy the evidence. "The shocking murder shows the  inactiveness of the police.  The CM cannot handle the home portfolio. The suspension of the SP and the SI is not enough.  All those who are involved in the case should be brought before the law,"  he said.   Since the incident happened on  the limits of two districts,  a police officer of the rank of ADGP should be entrusted with the investigation,    he said.

He alleged that the police system in the state had degraded to such a level that only cases in which the CPM is interested  were  investigated. Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy alleged the police could not get away from their responsibility and that the CCTV cameras of the police station should be verified for knowing the truth. The phone call records of the Sub-Inspector and other police officers of the station should  be verified, he said and demanded that the delay in the police inquest of the body should also be investigated.
