Kochi: Electrical Inspectorate says short circuit not the reason
The officials, after an initial examination at the spot, said that there was no evidence to suggest an electrical short circuit had caused the fire.
Kochi: A day after a major fire broke out in a textile shop at the Cloth Bazaar in Broadway, the officials of the Electrical Inspectorate who examined the spot prima facie found no evidence for electrical short circuit. The fire and rescue officials had hinted at short circuit to be the reason behind the fire breakout on Monday. The Electrical Inspectorate inspected the shops on Tuesday evening.
The officials, after an initial examination at the spot, said that there was no evidence to suggest an electrical short circuit had caused the fire. “A detailed investigation will be conducted in the coming days during which the electrical system in the shop will be examined in detail,” an official said.
They said that the first floor, which was fully damaged in the fire is suspected to be the place of origin. It is learnt that the officials will need more than a month to complete the process and find out the reasons that caused the fire. Therefore the report is likely to be submitted before the authorities only after a month.
The statements of the employees of the shops will also be taken by the officials in the coming days, they said.
The fire, which originated at a sewing machine shop K C Pap-pu & Sons, got spread to a textile godown and hardware godown next to it which caused an estimated damage of more than `10 lakhs. Around 125 fire and rescue personnel and police officers battled for two hours to contain the blaze.
