Kozhikode: 4 young talents feted for innovation in US
Students present rainwater purifier using natural methods at RoboRAVE.
Kozhikode: Four young talents from ‘My School’, Tirur, have presented a rainwater purifier using natural methods at the RoboRAVE California.
It also won them the second prize in the entrepreneurial category of RoboRAVE held at Santa Clara Convention Center, California, last month.
RoboRAVE is a robotics education application for students and teachers to design, build, programme and test robots to perform a variety of tasks. The four, Manha Ziyaan- marketing director, Vasudev P. Hari- financial manager, Aiza Noura- CEO, Amish Roshan- technical manager, competed with 27 teams from different countries.
“Our project is a water purifier which purifies rainwater using natural methods to create potable water. All the components of the model are fixed; it has no moving parts, so there won’t be any severe damages in the long run. Our project is made with a constant focus on innovation and sustainability,” one of the four said.
"We did this project when we realised the scarcity of water in many countries, including California. We had a brainstorming session based on our ideas. We then made a prototype with thermocol and cardboard. Then we, with the help of our facilitator Sunil Paul, made the model with acrylic and finally, our project was ready to be presented."
The team also had an opportunity to interact with learners and people from other countries as well as the NASA scientists. They also visited NASA to understand how the US space agency functions.
