Pudukkottai: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Karti P Chidambaram, who won the Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat in the recent elections, said here on Tuesday that Congress president Rahul Gandhi should not quit his post following the poll debacle.
Personally, Rahul Gandhi has put in tremendous effort to take the Congress message to the Indian masses and "he is the party president for ever," Karti said in a chat with reporters here.
Karti, son of former Finance minister, P Chidambaram, who was here to thank functionaries of Congress, DMK and their allies for the hard work in the elections and to seek their blessings, however, said., "we cannot ignore the votes secured by Makkal Neethi Maiyam and Naam Tamizhar Katchi candidates."
He said in future the DMK-Congress combine should approach the youth more intensely to win over the votes that in the recent Lok Sabha elections had gone to MNM and NTK parties led by actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan and director Seeman respectively.
The DMK-Congress front should also work to retain their vote bank in future, he added. He also urged the EC that there should not be 'NOTA' option in future elections.
On the cases against him, Karti said he would not be cowed down by the cases foisted on him by the Central government at any time.
Karti said as MP from Tamil Nadu, he would take up with the Centre to allot funds for the Rs.9,000 crore Cauvery-Gundaru rivers link to benefit seven southern districts including Pudukkottai and Sivaganga. Ends.
