Who's the architect of the new Parliament building
When the elegant and magnificent Parliament building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, the entire credit for construction of the impressive building goes to Bimal Hasmukh Patel, a Gujarat-based architect, urban planner and urban designer. Patel’s architecture firm HCP Design Planning and Management Private Limited has designed and implemented the new Parliament building, Central Vista Avenue, and allied buildings and spaces. Patel has taken up several noted government construction projects in Gujarat.
Born in August, 1961 Patel has more than 35 years of professional, research and teaching experience in architecture, urban design and urban planning. His father Hasmukh Chandulal Patel was an established architect who founded the HCP firm in 1960. His primary education was at St. Xavier's High School, Loyola Hall, Ahmedabad. He studied Architecture at the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad, in 1984 and completed his Master's degree in Architecture and City Planning in 1988.
Patel started his career in 1990 in Ahmedabad and one of his first building design projects, was a campus for The Entrepreneurship Development Institute.
A Padma Shri awardee in 2019, Patel has also bagged several honours for his exemplary contributions to architecture, including Prime Minister’s National Award for Excellence in Urban Planning and Design, World Architecture Award and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
