Hyderabad: Rajendranagar shows how to manage waste
Only circle in the city to implement 100 percent waste segregation.
Hyderabad: Rajendranagar is the only division in the city that follows 100 per cent solid waste segregation. With a population of 2.24 lakh spread across five wards, it generates 3.25 metric tonnes of garbage.
Dr P. Padma, GHMC assistant medical health officer, said, “Disposing of the garbage is a huge challenge as the volume keeps on increasing all the time. Rajendranagar does not add to the waste load to the Jawarharnagar dumping yard. The circle has one vermi-compost and two dry waste collection centres; the wet and dry wastes are dumped within the circle. While the dry waste is sold to companies, the wet waste goes into the composting pits. We are the only circle in Hyderabad that does 100 per cent waste segregation.”
