Kozhikode: A joint effort by the Kerala State Electricity Board staff at Kakkayam has succeeded in transforming the tourism destination into a centre of charm within few days of hectic activity.

It was district collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao who inspired the KSEB officials to take the challenge to transform the centre in to a more hospitable and friendly destination to attract more visitors.

The district collector has congratulated the KSEB staff for the completion of the mission within the time frame. “When me and my team visited the Kakkayam Dam on June 2 it seemed like an abandoned spot with bushes and wild growth. We challenged the KSEB to convert it into a place that would provide a remarkable experience to the visitors within 15 days. They took it as  a mission and accomplished within the time frame,” the collector said.

“When we visited the spot the other day the bushes were all cleaned and converted into a beautiful landscape. The functioning of the boat jetty has been redesigned and made more visitor- friendly,” he further added.

Many more things are being readied behind the curtain including a beautiful garden, antique museum and butterfly park.  A cycling track from Kakkayam Dam to Urakkuzhy Waterfall is also taking shape.

Seeram Sambasiva Rao also assured the officials - KSEB special officer Abdul Rahim C and assistant manager Ranjith N.R. who headed the beautification drive - that more boats would be made available for the destination. Purushan Kadalu-ndi, MLA, also assured the same to the officials.
