Noted Telugu writer Abburi Chayadevi no more

Hyderabad: Abburi Chayadevi, a noted Telugu fiction writer and Kendra Sahitya Akademi winner passed away on Friday at the age of 86 after a cardiac arrest. Chayadevi had been struggling with lung ailments for a long time.

Chayadevi is known for her works which highlighted the various issues faced by women. She won the Akademi award in 2005 for her book Thana Margam.

Her other works include Evarini Cheskonu and Bonsai Brathukulu.

Many of her works were translated into English and other languages. Bonsai Brathukulu, which expounds the difference in the manner in which children are raised depending on their gender, was also included in school syllabi.

In the 1960s the writer worked as a librarian at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. She married Abburi Varada Rajeswara Rao, also a renowned writer. She had been living in an old-age home run by CR Foundation.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao expressed deep condolences and remembered her for her rich contribution to Telugu literature.
