ADILABAD: Residents of low-lying areas have been suffering a lot as floodwater entered into many colonies in Mancherial town after 9.32 lakh cusecs of flood water were released downstream from Sripada-Yellampalli by lifting 48 crest gates.

The Balajinagar, Peddammagudi, Ramnagar, and NTR Nagar colonies were also affected by the flooding. The locals in the low-lying area were urged to relocate to safer areas by the authorities.

According to reports, residents of the Ramnagar Duplex and Balajinagar communities complained bitterly to the local MLA Diwakar Rao that he had not set up rehabilitation facilities for them but had instead urged them to find safer places on their own because they were wealthy. Diwakar Rao was criticised by the residents of these colonies for not allocating specific funds for flood-affected areas two years prior.

The villages along the banks of the Godavari in the Chennur and Kotapalli mandals of the Mancherial district were visited by Bharati Holli Kheri, who was given specific responsibility for overseeing the relief and restoration efforts. Flood danger exists for the villages along the Godavari river in the Chennur and Mancherial Assembly constituencies.

The Mother and Child Health Centre on the banks of the river Godavari had floodwater inside its walls as well. As a precaution against potential flood threats in Mancherial town, all patients were recently transferred to a government district hospital.
