Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the progress of Polavaram project and discussed the designs, construction and other aspects.

Mr Naidu discussed on the progress of Polavaram through reports submitted by the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) on Monday.

The officials reported that this week, 2.5 lakh cubic metres of earth was excavated and that 21,226 cubic metres of concrete was laid for the spillway and stilling basin. Around 15 arm girders and all the skin plates of the radial gates were fabricated.

According to a press release from the CMO, the Chief Minister insisted that a detailed action plan should be framed to achieve the target of concrete work.

While only 3,050 cubic metres of earthwork per day is a good average, it must increase to 4,000 to 5,000 cubic metres, he felt. Even if it requires more budget, work on Polavaram must speed up, he said.

During the review, Isro officials reported to the Chief Minister that Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts have  received adequate and more rainfall, which will continue for the next few days. However, the forecast says that the rains will reduce in September, possibly resulting in a short dry spell during the second week.
