Chennai: Man falls into well while immersing Ganesha idol, rescued

The man was lifted out safe using ropes and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Chennai: A 47-year-old man had a near death experience when he attempted to immerse a Ganesha idol in a well near his residence in Mogappair on Sunday morning.  M. Loganathan, an employee at a private firm. slipped and fell into a 60 feet deep well and was rescued by the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Personnel (TNFRS).

According to TNFRS personnel, the incident was reported around 9 am near Bharathi road in Mogappair. Loganathan and his son had gone to immerse the statue in the unused well there.

The concrete under the man’s feet caved in and he fell into the well. His son alerted the neighbours who informed the fire control.

A rescue team from Ambattur fire station rushed to the scene. “The well was 30 feet wide and 60 feet depth. We reached in time to ensure rescue operations were underway immediately,” M. Ramasubramaniam, lead fireman, said.
