Hyderabad: Students appearing for the TSPSC exams on Sunday, at the Anurag College of Engineering have alleged that they were asked to shell out Rs 20 and Rs 30 to keep their bags outside the classroom while the exam was being conducted.

Chandini Kakkat (name changed), appearing for the post of assistant executive engineer says, “It is a new practice to demand money to keep bags outside the classroom.”

G. Lakshminarayan, chief superintendent of the examination, Anurag college says, “We called the attenders of the college, telling them that the examination is a good means for them to earn Rs 200 to Rs 300. We do not follow the same practice for our regular students. It was raining and the students needed their belongings to be guarded.” While college officials claimed that only Rs 5 to Rs 10 was taken, students denied and said that, the college found an easy way to make a quick buck.

The assistant secretary of TSPSC says, “We understand the plight of students coming from faraway places who have to carry mobile phones. We frequently get complaints about colleges extorting money under the guise of guarding personal belongings. The fee collection is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions issued by TSPSC.” He said that the complaints received would be forwarded to higher officials.
