Hi-tech cop academy awaits SI trainees
Hostels have well-equipped gymnasiums, Wi-fi connectivity.
Hyderabad: A new open-air theatre, fully equipped gymnasiums, and Wi-fi connectivity across the campus are just some of the preparations made at the Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) as the new batch of sub-inspectors commence their training.
A huge batch of 710 stipendiary cadet sub-inspectors (Civil), 280 stipendiary cadet reserve sub-inspectors of Armed reserve, 191 stipendiary cadet reserve sub-inspectors of Telangana State Special police and 29 communications sub-inspectors, totalling 1210 officers, have begun to report to the academy for training.
According to TSPA officials, the classrooms have been spruced up and are well equipped with audio-visual equipment, and LCD projectors, while for the outdoor training, the academy has prepared a 1 to 5 level grounds for PT, athletic track, swimming pool, firing range and cycling tracks.
“All hostels have well equipped gymnasiums. For women SIs, a separate gym has been established at the senior officers mess,” said Santosh Mehra, director of the police academy.
He said that the academy has a new open-air theatre at the football grounds for showing films every weekend. “The entire campus now has Wi-fi facility,” the senior IPS officer said.
To conduct outdoor schedules for the huge batch, the TSPA in coordination with all the unit officers of the Telangana state has attached outdoor staff in various ranks, all of whom have been trained to give training to the upcoming batch of SIs.
Additional time has been allotted to core police subjects such as the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Investigation and Forensic Science, while time has been reduced for what are considered non-core subjects such as the Constitution of India and Criminology. “The syllabus has been upgraded keeping in view the present scenario, allotting more classes to core subjects and reducing the periods for non-core subjects,” Mr Mehra said.
For accommodating such a large number of trainees, the TSPA has made arrangements at the junior officers’ mess while women trainees are going to be accommodated in the senior officers’ mess.
The TSPA, which was ranked the best among all police academies across the country in 2016, has gone a step ahead and got 35 officers and men specialised training at the CRPF training centre in Neemuch, MP, as part of Training of Trainers programme.
“The academy is recognised as a Regional Police Computer training centre on behalf of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), New Delhi and is conducting various specialised computer training programmes for southern state police officers and men. We are also conducting specialised training programmes on women’s safety,” Mr Mehra added.
