Telangana lawyers argue over shifting of High Court
Others say the state should give a clear statement about whether the court is being shifted or not and set the gossip at rest.
Hyderabad: Speculation over the shifting of the Telangana High Court from its existing location at Ghansi Bazar, to Budwel on the outskirts of the city, is creating differences among lawyers who practice in the High Court and has even been given a political colour.
Some lawyers say that those associated with the BJP and Congress are trying to rake up the issue of shifting the High Court to gain some political mileage by creating some sensation. Others say the state should give a clear statement about whether the court is being shifted or not and set the gossip at rest.
In 2009, the then Congress government headed by YS Rajasekhar Reddy, had proposed a new High Court building at Budwel. After the demise of YSR, the proposal was kept aside.
After bifurcation of the state, when the demand for a separate High Court for Telangana was raised, the Telangana state government in 2015, was ready to move to another area and leave the existing High Court to AP. This proposal was placed before the Supreme Court and Union Government by the TS government. The proposal was discussed in a full court meeting at that time and most of the judges agreed to the proposal, but it never materialised.
In view of the state government deciding to build new Secretariat and Assembly complexes, the issue has now been resurrected.
