Thiruvananthapuram: Respite for Amala Paul, Fahad Faasil in tax evasion case
The high profile deals came into light in 2017.
Thiruvananthapuram: A crime branch team investigating the allegations that actors Amala Paul and Fahad Faasil fabricated documents and used false addresses to register their luxury cars in Puducherry in a bid to evade higher taxes in the state has come to a conclusion that the two cannot be proceeded against. It, however, said action will continue against Suresh Gopi, MP, on a similar charge.
The high profile deals came into light in 2017.
In a report submitted to the high court, the crime branch said Amala Paul registered her Mercedes Benz car using fabricated documents of her rented house at Thilasapetty in Puducherry but it was unable to register a case against her in the state as the transaction took place outside the state. The crime branch said it had informed the Puducherry transport department about it, and sought action against her.
The report said the actress had not brought the car, which she had bought for Rs 1.12 crore, to Kerala. She paid a tax of rs 1.25 lakh against Rs 20 lakh chargeable in Kerala. She had registered her vehicle in the name of an engineering student unknown to her. Fake registration is a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison.
The Crime Branch said actor Fahadh Faasil, who faced a similar charge, paid the fine on registration.
The report said Mr Suresh Gopi will face legal action as he brought the car to the state without paying the fine.
