BHUBANESWAR: As many four passengers of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) had a close shave after the vehicle was hit by a goods train inside the restricted zone of Odisha’s Paradip Port on Monday.

As per initial reports, the SUV was dragged for at least 30 metres following the collision. A major tragedy was averted as the speed of the goods train was slow.

The collision occurred near the Mechanical Coal Handling Plant (MCHP) canteen. The SUV has been partly damaged in the incident.

Though the exact reason how the accident occurred is yet to be ascertained, it appears that the driver of the SUV was at fault as he was trying to cross the railway tracks without noticing the goods train.

Sources said that some employees of a private company were travelling in the SUV.

Following the incident, senior officials of CISF and Paradip Port’s traffic department reached the sport and cleared the track.
