1.5 lakh new vehicles to hit Hyderabad roads by Dasara
Dealers expect the sales of four-wheelers to match last year's numbers.
Hyderabad: Come Dasara there is likely to be an increase in the number of vehicles on the road. According to estimates provided by automobile dealers and officials of the Road Transport Authority, based on the sales of the past eight days, nearly 1.5 lakh new vehicles will be on the road by Dasara.
There are 118 major car showrooms, nearly 1,000 two-wheeler showrooms and about 750 small and medium automobile dealers within the limits of Greater Hyderabad.
Despite the less attractive discounts being offered this year as compared to 2016, and there being a waiting lists, sales have increased by 10 per cent in the two-wheeler category. Dealers expect the sales of four-wheelers to match last year’s numbers.
Official sources from the transport department say that nearly one lakh temporary registrations have been issued in all by five regional transport offices in the city, three in Ranga Reddy district, and three in Medchal district since the beginning of Navaratri.
“The purchase of new vehicles on the occasion of Durgastami holds a special sentiment for Hindus, because of the Aayudha Puja and the Vahana Puja. Sales increased on Thursday, which was Durgastami. We will soon have accurate figures for the number of temporary registrations issued.”
Col. P.T. Chowdary (retd), leader of the automobile dealers’ association, said that dealers have had good sales this Dasara, and customers had benefited from the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST)
“The sales of two-wheelers have been very good and the sale of four-wheelers may hit the same mark as last year. We are expecting similar sales to continue for the next three to four days.
“This time a majority of dealers have not announced offers due to the high demand for some models. Instead, they are offering ‘scratch and win’ cards to customers and providing benefits on the purchase of accessories and insurance policies. For cars, there are good offers with cash benefits of up to Rs 40,000. on some models,” he said.
Mr Yelamanchili Rama Koteswara Rao of the AP automobile dealers’ association said that this year’s sales had been better than the last two years’.
