3 held for cheating Chennai businessman

Chennai: Police on Thursday arrested three persons including one from Kerala for cheating a city businessman of Rs 80 lakh promising to get him a copper-iridium metal, commonly known as the ‘rice pulling’ vessel.

D. Anandan (45), a resident of Balaji Nagar in Royapettah, runs an auto spare parts store on Gowdia Mutt road. Anandan had approached one of his friends, K Kumar, who promised to get him the ‘auspicious’ metal. Kumar introduced Anandan to two persons — S. Sujith and T. Srinivasan

The trio struck a deal with businessman and got '80 lakh from him on September 12. The deal was to get the metal within four days of payment, but the trio kept on dodging Anandan when he started questioning them post the deadline.

A fortnight later, the businessman got neither the metal nor the money he paid following which he approached the Royapettah police. A special team traced the trio and arrested them. 

Sujith is a native of Kottayam in Kerala while Srinivasan is from Pallikaranai, police said. All the three were involved in real estate business.  Police recovered Rs 40 lakh from the men and they were produced before a court.
