Till date, the GHMC has received about 550 applications from commercial establishment and the staff is verifying whether they have the prescribed fire safety measures.

Hyderabad: Incomplete acquisition of properties has stalled work on High Tension Road between Nizampet main road and Pragatinagar. This road is part of Hydernagar division that was adopted by minister K.T. Rama Rao.

The 550-metre Rs 3 crore project taken up from Nagarjuna Homes on Nizampet main road to Pragatinagar was awarded to a contractor in October last year. There were seven properties impacted by the proposal.

According to officials, five properties have been cleared partially because of which road formation could be done.  Two belonging to a builder and a private person couldn't be acquired.

A GHMC official said the two properties, one belonging to Nagarjuna Homes and a 3,700-sq yard parcel of land belonging to a private person are being affected. This land is already being used by the public as a road. “This is private property and the person has claimed around Rs 23 crore compensation,” the official said.

Several vehicles ply on this road and apartments have sprung up. To cater to the needs of increasing populace, the GHMC had taken up road widening and construction of a drain. The road is narrow, at about 4.5 metres, and officials want to widen it to 7.5 metres. An official said, “Currently it is a two-lane road and we are making it to four lanes. We have built the road on either side, while leaving out the land of the individual owner.”

At Nagarjuna Homes, a bottleneck has been formed because an underground sump. The road is 7.5 metres wide but the GHMC only as five metres. If Nagarjuna Homes gives clearance, the road can be made a thoroughfare.

Additionally, work on the drain has been stalled as 5 feet of space on both sides is needed, which the town planning team is yet to clear.
