BC mantra for BJP in Huzurnagar

The BC community constitutes about 38 per cent of the population in the constituency with 83,663 voters, the highest for any group.

Hyderabad: The BJP has changed its strategy and decided to field a BC candidate in Huzurnagar byelections with an eye on the huge chunk of votes of the community. Earlier, the BJP was to field a candidate from the Reddy community.

The BC community constitutes about 38 per cent of the population in the constituency with 83,663 voters, the highest for any group. Reddys constitute 12.59 per cent (27,712 voters).  Among the BC groups, the Goud and Yadava communities are the largest at 7.65 per cent (16,838 voters) and 7.51 per cent (16,530 voters) respectively. They are followed by the Munn-uru Kapu and Mudiraj communities with 13,273 and 13,228 voters respectively. The other castes constitute 24.38 per cent with 53,662 voters.

Among the OCs, after the Reddy community at 12.59 per cent stand the Kammas (5.03 per cent, 11,071 voters), Vysyas (4.12 per cent, 9,068 voters) and Velamas (2.64 per cent, 5,811 voters).

The Madiga community forms 9.76 per cent of the population at 21,483 voters, the Mala community 7.38 per cent with 16,244 voters. The STs constitute 12.83 per cent with 28,240 voters.

The state BJP leadership expects that it will get the support of the community by nominating a BC candidate. It hopes the voters from the Backward Classes will also be influenced by the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself belongs to the community.
