First police station sans officials, papers in 2020
State police soon to visit one such police station in Dubai, says DGP Behera.
Kochi: Kerala will have its first humanless and paperless police station in 2020, according to state police chief DGP Loknath Behera. “Kerala will be the first in the country to have such a police station,” he said at the valedictory of Cocon, the two-day annual cybersecurity conference on Saturday.
“We will soon visit one such police station in Dubai. We have plans to implement it here in the next 11 months so that 2020 will be a year of introducing new technologies in policing,” he said.
He pointed out a major concern of piracy and copyright infringements in the current digital era. “The South Indian film industry is facing major piracy threats nowadays,” he said. “The police along with other enforcement agencies and cyber cell are planning to initiate steps to end piracy in the state,” he added.
The government has already planned a `100-crore project of Cyber Security Centre and the initial steps for its launch have been taken.
Mr Behera also revealed that the UAE had requested Kerala police to conduct a similar conference in Abu Dhabi after getting impressed by Cocon. He said the proposal will be taken into consideration.
Film actor Mohanlal, chief guest, stressed the importance of cybersecurity awareness to prevent cyber crimes. “As cyber crimes are increasing at an alarming rate, there is a lack of proper awareness for the public in safe handling of the cyberspace,” he said.
Prominent speakers, including Queensland Police Detective Inspector Jon Rouse, Cybersecurity expert Ryan Sherstobitoff, ADGP Manoj Abraham and Manu Zacharia. president of Information Secur-ity Research Association (ISRA), were present.
The conference witnessed presentations on Darknet, AI and VR, Blockchain in policing and drone technology. Over 1,200 delegates from around 30 countries attended the conference.
The DGP also announced that the next edition of Cocon will be held on September 11 and 12 in 2020. The main theme would be use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) for a safe society, apart from cryptocurrency.
