Dolphin's Hills registers highest rainfall in Vizag
Another system is forming over Bay of Bengal, which has the potential of transforming into a cyclone
VISAKHAPATNAM: Within the port city of Visakhapatnam, Dolphin's Hills registered the highest rainfall of 411 mm from September 26, when Cyclone Gulab made its landfall on AP coast in Srikakulam district.
This was followed by Simhachalam 381 mm and Hanumanthawaka 378 mm. Other areas including MVP Colony received 358 mm, Rushikonda 353 mm, Madhurawada 329, and Vizag Port – 355 mm of rainfall.
According to weather blogger Sai Praneeth B., who has prepared a report on rainfall data by selecting key locations in the city, Dolphin's Nose received the highest rainfall due to its terrain and geographical location. When it comes to Simhachalam, it is due to its high altitude, which attracts rain bands.
Meanwhile, K. Nagaratna, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad centre, told Deccan Chronicle that another system is forming over Bay of Bengal, which has the potential of transforming into a cyclone. The impact of this system will be more on Telangana, as the system appears to be tilting towards the neighbouring state.
The IMD director said that leftover winds and moisture from Cyclone Gulab would join the system over the Arabian Sea in the next one or two days.
